ヘンリー・スティムソンが京都を原爆から救った。
京都は第二次大戦中、六大都市の中で唯一、戦略爆撃を受けなかった100万都市ですが、実はその京都が原爆投下の標的の第1に挙げられていた。その当時アメリカの陸軍長官であったヘンリー・スティムソンが二度にわたりトルーマン大統領に要請して京都への投下を止めた。スティムソンがいなかったら、日本の文化の中核の京都が壊滅していた。
