10月13日はサツマイモの日。

○10月13日は「サツマイモの日」
埼玉県川越市の市民グループ・川越いも友の会が制定しました。 10月はさつまいもの旬であり、川越が江戸から約13里であるとして。さつまいもが「栗(9里)より(4里)うまい13里」から決めました。

○ 13th  October  is "The day of the sweet potato"
"Citizen group Friends of potatoes"   Kawagoe Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture was established.
October is the season of sweet potato,  Kawagoe is as is about 13-ri from Edo (Tokyo.)   (ri =3.9km.  old distance scale in Japan.)
So  Kawagoe people  says "Sweet potato is good than chestnut"
(13-ri is good than 9-ri.)
Kawagoe people says "13 -ri means sweet poteto and 9-ri  means chestnut."
